Simona Smirnova Word Jazz Quartet: Bird Language
Simona Smirnova is a Lithuanian born jazz vocalist, composer and zitherist based in New York City. She is regularly performing locally in New York jazz venues with her quartet, as well as touring in different parts of the world, such as Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Simona's style is known for its unique theatrical flavor, genre-bending, and virtuosic vocal scat improvisation. 'Bird Language' is a musical controversy between tribal roots, "bird-scat', Lithuanian zither arpeggios, and chants incorporated into urban musical styles such as jazz and rock. At the Red Room Simona will be performing with her fellow colleagues from Berklee College of Music years: Rinat Tregerman on piano, Aaron Holthus on double bass, and Andres Fonseca on percussion.
